Principal’s Report - Anne McLauchlan

The Gap State High School Parents’ and Citizens’ Association

Week 1 Term 3 – Hub 2# presentation Really excited that the school’s GP has been locked in. Sally was wondering if they will do vaccinations?

Anne, Leigh and David (along with the school’s sponsorship consultant) attended two sponsorship pitches with local businesses today (Monday). These went really well and all those involved were encouraged and excited about the partnerships going forward.

Staffing continues to fluctuate, affected by numerous factors including sickness. There is a teacher shortage. There will be a letter/email going out soon to all parents regarding the movement of staff for Term 3.

Anne will be going on long service leave for 3 weeks (the first weeks of Term 3. A replacement has been arranged.

The school is looking for 5 teachers across a number of departments including German, HPE and Humanities if anyone knows of anyone.

Caroline Morrissey has been appointed as the Events, Marketing and Sponsorship Manager. She comes with a suite of skills. Thank you to the P&C who have helped fund this.

Anne delivered a presentation on the work and results of a trial that the school has been doing using specific teaching teams that work on developing targeted differentiated work to help lift student outcomes. The trail group was Year 9 English in 2021. The results from this approach has been overwhelmingly positive. See the presentation here.

Angela Windmill Kym Bierenbroodspot Tuckshop The tuckshop has face a lot of challenges in recent months with having to move while renovations are done as well as challenges with staffing.

At the moment the café is closed while we work on finding the right person to fill this position.

Leigh proposed that the P&C establish a Tuckshop Working Group to explore and flesh out the specifics around the cafés purpose and role, how best to solve long lines at the Tuckshop, staffing and all expenditure including wages and the ever-changing costs and supply of goods.

Rachel Greig and Jacqui Edgar will head this group with the support of other Executive and P&C members.

General Business

Motion

  • School Sponsorship (see Principal’s report)
  • Events Coordinator (see Principal’s report)
  • Email regarding school beanie and scarf

Discussion around the email received and the possibility of introducing scarfs (and beanies) into the uniform shop.

Rachel mentioned that she had discussed the idea with a group of Year 7s and they were keen to have a scarf. They also thought some kids might like the beanie.

Angela mentioned that if the scarves did not need to be branded with the school logo (longer lead times and higher costs involved with branded ones) it would be relatively easy to source some via one of her suppliers. Parents might also like to source these from stores like Big W, Kmart and Target.

Perhaps grey, green or black would be suitable colours for consideration.

Janelle wondered if we might like to work on a transition plan for 2023? Trialling them now and revaluating it in a few months.

What about House coloured scarves?

The P&C approve the purchase of 50 green scarfs for $5 each and trial selling them for $10 through the uniform shop.
