Principal’s Report - Anne McLauchlan

We welcome Sally Hawkes, Acting Principal Carolyn Speers and the Wellbeing Hub #2 team will be presenting tonight. See presentation here.

We have checked on that house fire and none of our families have been affected.

Also, we welcome another new Deputy Principal to the team. Tony has returned to Mansfield to focus on his health and Lisa MacDermott from Craigslea SHS joins us for the rest of this year.

Also, good news, Brad will commence his return to work two days per week, Tuesdays and Thursday for the first few weeks. Cameron Drew continues in as the Yr 12 Deputy Principal. Michael Clarke and Ashleigh Emblem will team up to support the 12s until the end of the year.

The Gap State High School Parents’ and Citizens’ Association

Joshua Connolly has been recruited to take up the Year 10 Head of Year position. He joins us from Pine Rivers SHS and is an experienced teacher and Year level Coordinator.

So many other staff changes keep happening…it is crazy but Julie has done a great job at getting all the classes covered for this week. Heading out to Creative Generation on Thursday night with Monique to see our four students perform as part of this extravaganza.

So many good things happening at the moment.

No report. Meeting tomorrow night (12 July) in N Block at 7.30pm.

Erin would like clarification on a couple of things...

Are Poparts parents looking after/paying for catering and bar for the musical, or is it a wider P&C event?

It was clarified that the PoPArts committee will be responsible for the food on the night and that given the length of the show (1hr) that all that will probably be required will be water, soft drink, chips (prepackaged food).

Why were musical tickets available for $1 each last Tuesday, and does the P&C know how many tickets were sold at this price?

Erin will check with David Nichols regarding this.

Sally Hawkes advised that they have had a meeting and there are now plans in place to have staff supervision to help reduce this and identify those involved.

Penni suggested that while we don’t have a Chaplain could we use their discretionary fund for Guidance Officer to help any identified students that may need it for food.

Penni suggested that the P&C check that the t-shirt company that they are considering for the supply of house shirts is on the approved Education Queensland list.

The the P&C release $100 to the Environment Club for purchasing more recycling bins.
